Tunder Observation System in range of long electromagnetic waves

Author: Nino Kvavadze
Annotation:

Studying of the effects of lightning on Earth’s surface and atmosphere is an important problem for modern Geophysics and Atmosphere physics. Also, it is important to evaluate hazard and risk posed by the lightning. To study these problems, it is necessary have an observation network. Until now, such observations weren’t conducted on territory of Georgia. First station has started working in May, 2016, at TSU Ionosphere Observatory, that is located near Tbilisi, in Tabakhmela. In the work, lightning mechanism is shortly described and existing observation and data processing methodologies are overviewed. Lightning hazard map, that was calculated at TSU M. Nodia Institute of Geophysics, is shown. Is described antenna system that was created and used software. Observations are made in 1 – 24 kHz frequency range. Some of the existing data is shown. Adding the station in international network is planned. This will give us ability to improve the quality of data and view data from all over the world.
