Treatment of Osteoporosis and other Calcium Deficiency Diseases with the Help of Liposoms

With medicine and technology developing life expectancy is prolonged. Accordingly the number of elderly is increasing. Because osteoporosis becomes more common with age it is predicted that fractures will reach epidemic proportions. For the patients with established osteoporosis adequate calcium and vitamin D intake is recommended. It is known that supplemental calcium can cause adverse side effects. Usage of drug for which active concentration is not much lower than toxic concentration is ineffective. Nanoparticle encapsulation has been shown to reduce drug toxicity while retaining and improving the therapeutic efficacy. Among all nanoparticles, liposomes have been most studied. Their attractiveness lies in their composition, which makes them biodegradable that may not definitely be achieved in other cases. During this survey our goal is to obtain stable, uniform liposomes and to encapsulate calcium in them. Latter we will observe the in vivo release.
