Enantioseparation of Beta-adrenergic receptor blockers

Author: Lasha Giunashvili
Annotation:

Hight level of precision in measurement of enantiomeric purity can only be achieved by very few analytical techniques, chiral HPLC being one of them. The main advantages of chiral HPLC analysis over other techniques are speed (run less than 20 min), detection level and ease of use. Individual enantiomersof beta-adrenergic receptor blockers posses different pharmacodynamic, pharmacokinetic and toxicological effects. The enantiomeric resolution of eighteen β2-agonists including bambuterol, clenbuterol, clenpenterol, brombuterol, butoxamine, cimaterol, cimbuterol, dobutamine, fenoterol, formoterol, isoxuprine, labetalol, pirbuterol, ractopamine, ritodrine, salbutamol, salmeteroland terbutaline, was studied on polysaccharide-based chiral stationary phases and aqueous-organic mobile phases in high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) using Agilent 1260 HPLC instrument equipped with a binary pump and variable wavelength UV-detector.
