s u m m a r y Hydration of nitriles is a very important transformation to produce amides. The classical hydration of nitriles by acid- and base-catalyzed hydrolisis of organonitriles often affords unwanted carboxylic acids and side reaction products. These difficulties can be avoided by using metal complexes as catalysts for nitrile hydration..We performed investigation of transition-metal-catalyzed hydration of ferrocenyl-containing nitriles.We also used the approach based on the application of acetaldoxime as an effective water source. Thus, convertion of nitrile Fc-C(Cl)=CH-CN to amide Fc-C(Cl)=CH-CONH2 was conducted under neutral and anhydrous conditions, in the presence of 3-5 equivalant CH3CH=NOH and RhCl(PPh3)3 catalyst.
